When someone experiences a serious medical crisis—a heart attack, stroke, or traumatic injury—the first stop is usually a traditional hospital. This is where “acute care” happens: fast, focused treatment to stabilize a critical condition. These hospitals are designed for short stays, with the goal of diagnosing the problem, managing the emergency, and getting the patient on the road to recovery.
But some patients need more time. More care. A slower, more deliberate path forward before they’re ready to go home or transition to another setting. That’s where hospitals like Cornerstone come in.
Cornerstone is a long-term acute care hospital, sometimes called an LTACH. We’re a bridge between short-term emergency care and full recovery. When a traditional hospital has done what it can, and more healing is still needed, we provide that next level of care.
It’s important to know that “long-term” doesn’t mean permanent. It simply means longer than a typical hospital stay. Our patients usually stay with us for about 25 to 30 days, depending on their needs. During that time, our physician-led team provides daily medical oversight and highly specialized care, tailored to complex conditions like respiratory failure, cardiac illness, infections, neurological injuries, and non-healing wounds.
Our goal is always the same: to help you heal fully, steadily, and safely—so you can move forward with strength and confidence.
